Estrogen Dominance: Part 1

  • PMS

  • Weight gain

  • Endometriosis

  • Fatigue

  • Menstruation irregularities

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Bloating

  • Insomnia

  • Mood swings

If you commonly notice any of these symptoms combined or alone on a frequent basis,  you are probably suffering from Estrogen Dominance. The progesterone and estrogen exist in balance with each other but when estrogen exceeds very less progesterone is left to balance it out. Popping the Pill is not the answer rather finding the reason for dominance is the key.

To find the cause of estrogen dominance we have to look for following 4 parameters called PTSD

  • P stands for Production

  • T stands for Transportation

  • S stands for Sensitivity

  • D stands for Detoxification

  1. By Production we need to understand whether there is excess production of estrogens in body by measuring the levels at certain point of time of menstruation cycle.

  2. By Transportation it is about the carrier of oestrogen molecule by protein called SHBG. 69% of estrogen is bound to SHBG, 30% to albumin and only 1% is free. So if SHBG levels drop below the optimal levels more free circulating free estrogen will be available causing estrogen dominance.

  3. By sensitivity we mean the cells sensitivity towards estrogen receptors. Every human cells has receptors or affinity for different kind o hormones depending upon the function. If sensivity is reduced body starts producing more of it thinking that excess amount can get the work done, at least few of molecules are able to attach to the receptors

  4. Detoxification is an important step for every hormone or neurotransmitter that has been produced. After it has exerted its physiological effect on the cells its broken down into different metabolites and must be excreted out via different pathways
