What are Superfoods and why we Berries are known as Superfoods?

One common trait among all the Foods in SuperFood category is that they carry extreme and most vibrant colours like berries, broccoli, pomegranate, kale etc and second they are nutritionally rich with low sugar and fibre as well

Berries are rich in polyphenols, flavonoids, anthocyanins and  resveratrol which have potential health benefits ranging from cardiovascular protection to neutralising the free radical production and thereby reducing inflammation and oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is primary factor for declining brain performance and berries are pretty good at reducing oxidative stress through its excellent nutritional profile.

Berries are low in fructose and contains high amount of Vit. C and folic acid.

Berries should be eaten as a whole fruit or in smoothies and not in form of juice available in the market. Frozen berries have same antioxidant values and health benefits as compared to fresh ones.

Cranberries can used to treat urinary infections in women and sugar free juice has antiviral and anti fungal properties as well.
